What:

The Fitness Fest is our annual fundraiser that supports Friends of Ivanhoe.  One of the programs FOI raises funds for is Physical Education at Ivanhoe, so our teachers can spend time together planning their classroom lessons.  If every child raises $100 we can reach our goal of $40,000.   Ask family, friends, and neighbors to help support you as you pour your heart (and sweat) into your school!

When:

Wednesday, March 28th – 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders

Thursday, March 29th – Kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd Graders

Time:
8:10 a.m. until recess at 10:10 a.m., on the lower yard

How:
The younger students (K-2) will complete six (6) stations and the older students (3-5) will run laps.

We also include a Parent/Teacher Water Balloon Toss for the end of the event.  This is lots of fun for the kids to watch their favorite teacher compete to stay dry!

All students must bring a WATER BOTTLE to the event!  We will refill water bottles from large 5-gallon water jugs.

Volunteers:

Here is what we need on Wednesday, March 28th:

8:30am through 11:30am –

(5) volunteers to assist with water refills

(15+) volunteers to place rubber bands on runners wrists as they complete laps

At the end of the event all volunteers need to assist teachers with recording the number of laps their students completed and collecting rubber bands (placed on wrists to mark each lap).  Lastly, we need to clean up the lower yard, and return the event gear to the locker.

Here is what we need on Thursday, March 29th:

8:30am through 11:30am –

(5) volunteers to assist with water refills

(18) volunteers to assist students with each station (3 parents per station)

(6) volunteers to place rubber bands on students’ wrists as they complete each station

At the end of the event all volunteers need to assist teachers with collecting the rubber bands from the students (placed on wrists to mark each station.)  Lastly, we need to clean up the lower yard, and return the event gear to the locker.

Committee:

We need at least 5 parents to help run this event.  We will have our first meeting during the first week of March (immediately after drop-off in the teacher’s lounge).

As a committee we need to coordinate the following:

  • Printing of donation envelope
  • Obtaining water for participants on the day of the event
  • Obtaining popsicles for participants for after the event
  • Coordinating events with the PE Coach
  • Obtaining any equipment needed for the events
  • Obtaining student lists (by class) for the day of the event (mark off number of laps/events completed)
  • Obtaining rubber bands for marking each station/lap
  • Designing Parent/Teacher Event (last year we did a water balloon toss at the end of the event)
  • Visiting each classroom on the day BEFORE the event to remind students to bring a water bottle to the lower yard.  We will figure out some way to remind students to bring a water bottle to school (flyer, rubber band, string on their finger, etc.)

 Parents:

Volunteer to be a Fitness Fest Committee Member

Volunteer to assist on the day of the event!  It really is lots of fun!

Help your child to get enough donations to raise $100!

Donation Envelopes will be distributed on Monday, March 5th.  All collected donations are due back to FOI by Monday, April 9th.
